Helicopter Heroes is a BBC 1 fly on the wall documentary programme which follows the day-to-day work that the Yorkshire Air Ambulance undertake.
To date, the BBC have made five series about the Charity. The latest series aired throughout weekdays during September and October 2011. And we are very excited that a sixth series has also been commissioned for 2012 and is currently in production.
The BBC team are very much part of the YAA family! A member of their team flies with our crew on every mission.
The entire Helicopter Heroes production team is based in the Hangar upstairs from our airbase at Leeds Bradford International Airport with the shows being made there too. The latest series has also been filmed in HD giving the viewer excellent viewing clarity.
Helicopter Heroes is currently presented by Rav Wilding. Rav is also is the front-man for the BBC’s Crimewatch programme too. He also presented series’ two, three, four and five whilst TopGear’s Richard Hammond fronted the first series back in 2007.
Helicopter Heroes has without a doubt, been a fantastic hit, not only for the YAA but also for other Air Ambulances in the UK. We hope that is has helped to heighten the profile of other Air Ambulance charities too and assisted them in their fundraising efforts.
